Snowfall of two inches or more generally prompt plowing procedures to start. However, exceptions are made for storms based on the driving hazards such as freezing rain or icing conditions.
The Village of Somers Department of Public Works relies on the experience of its employees to make the best decisions as to what equipment to use, the type of surface treatments needed and when to mobilize snow removal and ice prevention equipment.
During the week the Public Works Superintendent will determine the resources needed to ensure safe travel conditions within the Village. On the weekends, the decision may be made by the Department of Public Works Superintendent or Foreman depending on who is on call.
