The Village/Town of Somers is accepting applications until the position is filled.

The Village/Town of Somers is seeking a creative, detail-oriented part-time Digital Content & Design Specialist to assist with external communication strategies with residents, and to recruit business and industry. In this role, you will be responsible for creating engaging content, maintaining consistent brand messaging, and managing our primary digital channels under the supervision of the Village Administrator or designee. This position is ideal for a self-motivated professional looking for a flexible, impactful part-time opportunity to support public engagement, and promote Somers to attract new development, and build a shared sense of community identity.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Content Creation: Plan and produce high-quality written and visual content for newsletters, Village website, and Village Facebook page as directed by the Administrator or designee. Coordinate with subject-matter experts to gather accurate information.
  • Metadata: Write captions and description and metadata with content to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
  • Social Media Management: Develop, schedule, and monitor engaging posts.
  • Content Audit – Perform routine reviews, update outdated information and recommend strategies to improve overall engagement within available resources.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Brand Consistency: Ensure all written and visual materials strictly adhere to our established Village/Town style guide and values.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or pursuing a degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field (or equivalent working experience).
  • Writing Skills: Good written, verbal, and proofreading skills with a sharp eye for structural clarity and grammatical accuracy.
  • Technical Proficiency: Hands-on experience with content management.
  • Project Management: Proven ability to handle multiple tasks independently, manage time efficiently, and meet deadlines.
  • Design Skills (Preferred): Basic experience with graphic design software like Canva or Adobe Creative Suite is a plus.

LICENSING & PERMISSIONS

  • All content created will be granted a perpetual license to the Village/Town of Somers.
  • Release forms for event subjects are required as outlined in Village/Town policy.

WHAT WE OFFER

Hourly pay rate of $20.00 to $25.00 per hour, commensurate with experience.
This position is available until the end of the year.
