Invenergy has filed an application to the State Public Service Commission (PSC) to build a 1,210 MW gas turbine power plant in Kenosha County.
Their preferred site is on lands that are currently in the Town of Paris, within the Village of Somers and City of Kenosha growth areas, just south of the Flint 94 Commerce Center. If the project is approved by the State PSC, then those lands would be transferred into the village or city as per a 2017 intergovernmental agreement.
As the first step in seeking approval of a generating plant, a developer submits an engineering plan to the PSC whereby they identify the boundaries of the sites that they are proposing – both their primary and secondary sites. The secondary site is in the Town of Paris on the west side of 172nd Ave, near an existing substation.
The PSC process requires for public hearings, and submittal of public comments. For a project of this size, the approval will come from the PSC and no local approvals are required.
