It’s been another great year in the Village of Somers.

We have been in touch with several developers looking to bring new housing to the Village of Somers.

At the corner of Green Bay Road and Highway E, a 73-single-family subdivision called Somers Creek will be going up in 2026. It is very exciting since it’s been almost 20 years since the Village has had a subdivision.

Another one is being planned on the site of the Maplecrest golf course. The proposed neighborhood would include a mix of 257 single family homes and 28 duplexes. The northwest corner of the property would include multifamily housing.

Near Fire Station 2, a developer is looking at building 200 apartments. Other developers have contacted the Village for more housing projects.

Phase II of Savannah at Pike Creek, at the corner of Green Bay Road and Highway L, is underway and is expected to be fully built out by the end of 2026. It will add 146 units to that neighborhood. The first residents are expected to start moving in during the first quarter of 2026. Apartments are rented as soon as they are finished.

The Somers Village Board has been making sure that new developments are held to strict quality standards to ensure attractive and sustainable housing stock for the future. These will help with the housing shortage that the area has been experiencing.

At the entrance to the Village on Highway E, Golden Oil, a company headquartered in the Somers, has opened a brand-new travel center, which includes a sit-down restaurant and a new-to-the-area coffee shop: Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii. Tropical Smoothie Café also opened on Market Lane.

On the commercial side, a local radiator manufacturer, IEA, relocated to Somers and is making a $43 Million investment in an existing building. Truck Country is going through the approvals to build a dealership in the growth area west of the interstate. These projects are being done outside Tax Increment Districts and contribute to the Village’s tax roll right away.

A few other projects are around the corner and will hopefully be announced soon.

The Village continues to upgrade its infrastructure. In 2026, the Valley View neighborhood will be repaved. The sewer lines in the Valley View, Country Charm, Beix, Highwood Heights and Maple Ridge subdivisions are being televised and will be re-lined if necessary. Public Works is also continuing the water meter replacement program and will be rehabbing the 13th Lift Station.

The Village passed its budget in the fall and financials have never been better. It is holding its AA Rating from Standard and Poor’s. We are replacing essential pieces of equipment that are coming to the end of their useful life. In 2026, the Village budgeted for a Vac-Truck for the public works department and a new front-line ambulance for the fire department. The 2017 ambulance it will replace will be kept as a backup. The Village is also budgeting for the replacement of its 24-year-old pumper tanker.

Somers has also been teaming up with other municipalities from around the United States to lobby Congress to be granted a new ZIP Code. We are happy to report that the issue was taken to the floor for the first time last year, and a Bill passed the house this year. It is currently working its way through the Senate and we are working with Senators Johnson and Baldwin to bring this bipartisan issue to a vote.
